I currently live in New Jersey but I'm a coastal guy and I really hate winter. How can I successfully move to Miami? Do landlords require that you work in order to rent an apartment or is it easy to find apartments on a temporary basis until I get a job?I want to move to Miami, what is the first thing I should get, an Apt. or a job?
Do NOT move until you have a job waiting for you!I want to move to Miami, what is the first thing I should get, an Apt. or a job?
It depends on how familiar you are with the city. If you don't know the city well then a hotel or motel would be a wiser choice as it gives you time to hunt for an apartment and a job at the same time. Few have the budget to commit to a lease for a year and temp housing in Miami is tough to find due to all the immigration that comes in every day. Knowledge of spanish us use full in much of the city.
Note; Ft Lauderdale, just 25 miles north, has a much larger population of northerners then Miami which is predominately hispanic. That might be closer to what you are looking for. People originally from the NYC area outnumber everybody , even locals, across northern and western Broward county. There are so many of us that they often call it the sixth borough. For job and apartment listing, google the local paper The Ft Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel.I want to move to Miami, what is the first thing I should get, an Apt. or a job?
A job would be first. The job market here in South Florida, is not good. Jobs are scarce and do not normally pay well unless you are well qualified in a career that is in high demand-something in the medical field would probably be good. If you want to live in Miami it would be helpful to speak fluent spanish. If not consider Ft.Lauderdale or Pompano Beach.
Apartments are getting scarce as well and this is the height of the season so a temp apartment will be well over $2,000 a month plus 13% tax for a period of under 7 months.
Get a job, then look for a nice apartment complex, in that order. Good luck!I want to move to Miami, what is the first thing I should get, an Apt. or a job?
