bq.is it a good thing to do?How much is homeschooling in miami?
The requirements for homeschooling in Florida are pretty simple. The parents send in a letter to the school district including the child's name, birthdate, address and parent's signature, telling the school of their intent to homeschool the child. (Withdraw the child if he's currently in a school.) Then they are officially homeschooling.
They can choose whatever books or curriculum they feel is appropriate. They can buy textbooks, use library books, or whatever. Some people in Florida, especially those with children in grade 6 or above, like to use http://www.flvs.net This is an online school that is free because it is really public school that can be done at home. Or you can use any other curriculum that you want; there are lots of possibilities.
They do have to keep records--the law calls it a portfolio--records of the educational activities the child does, titles of reading materials used, and some samples of work.
By the end of a full year, the parent has to turn in an evaluation on the child--can be a standardized test or can be a FL certified teacher going over the portfolio of work to make sure the child is making academic progress.
There are a number of homeschool support groups around where other homeschoolers get together to share ideas, answer questions, help each other. You can look for one on Yahoo! Groups or check on http://www.FPEA.com for support groups in Florida.

Would I recommend it? Definitely! Why else would I be doing it? Homeschooling is the best educational option for parents who are willing to devote the time, energy, and resources into educating their own children.
