You apartment manager is responsible for the safety of the unit - you are responsible for your items inside of it. I would suggest getting renters insuarance. That will protect your items from flood damage, theft, etc.
Good for you for thinking and planning ahead!Am i responsible for protecting my apartment?
ask the apartment manager about his policies on storm protection
Well, you may not have to pay for the damages, but think of it this way. Who's going to pay for your broken things when a tree branch smashes your window and ruins the rug, or sofa, of TV or stereo with the wind blowing in all the rain?
I'd put up boards over the windows than not take that chance. If you live farther inland, you can check with the apartment owner and ask about flooding history and they'll let you know if any floods had occurred in the past (don't know where you are, after all). If they reccomend evacuation, it might be a good idea to follow their advice. Especially if your neighbors in the other apartments are leaving too.Am i responsible for protecting my apartment?
if it's a natural disaster, I think it's ok to do that, it's not your fault. Besides, what can you do? you can'tbring everything with you, or you can't just put them somewhere safe, (there's no safe place in hurricanes, you know), just save yourself first
