Anybody have some eclectic, fun ideas for my Miami trip?

I'm heading down to Miami solo for about 9 days in mid-march. I'm looking for some interesting things to do... food, beach, art, nostalgia, etc.



Any local secrets?



Also, anyone stay in a hostel in Miami or Fort Lauderdale? I'm not expecting the Ritz Carlton, but will I at least be safe?
