What are the best things to do in Key West?

Especially for those on a budget. Is it wiser to fly into Ft Lauderdale or Miami and then rent a car or to just fly into Key West and rent a scooter or bike??What are the best things to do in Key West?
Miami Airport %26amp; Ft. Lauderdale airport are both well over 125 miles from Key West. A car is the only practical way if you are going to drive down. The ride from Florida City to Key West is very nice, allow 2-4 hours plus travel time from the airport.



Key West is a very small island, the major sights can be seen in less then a day. Take the Conch tour ride %26amp; you will see it all in a few hours. The major activity in Key West is "drinking" around Duval Street. If you are not into that, then the place will get dull fast. l recommend you get a room near Duval Street, it will save you walking, A bike or scooter is fine but you really can't go very far other then circle the town. If you were going to rent one to explore the other keys, be advised that you can't take them past the 7 mile bridge.



As for things to do, try Mallory Square at sunset. Consider one of the boat cruises around the island. Take that bike for a leisurely ride around the place, your gonna love it.What are the best things to do in Key West?
The only two things I can think of are to swim in the ocean and sunbathe.
