I'm looking to buy my first dog and need some assistance?

So I really want a Shiba Inu puppy, but I am not exactly sure where to buy it. From what I heard, buying from a pet shop is rather precarious. Would it be best to buy from a breeder? I live in Florida but can't seem to find any breeders in my area. Does anyone know of any breeders in the Miami area and what things of an essential nature should I keep in mind before I make the purchase?I'm looking to buy my first dog and need some assistance?
Oooh I wouldn't recommend a Shiba if you are a first time owner. And IF you do decide to get this breed, make SURE that you get one from a very good breeder, and meet the pup's parents. You might find a breeder at the AKC website.

Shiba Inus are extremely independent, and can be VERY stubborn with training. Make SURE that you are up for this challenge! They are an amazing breed, very intelligent, but also quite headstrong. You'll definitely want to take the pup to obedience training (novice AND intermediate), since you aren't experienced and you REALLY need to know what you're doing with these guys! They will make you work VERY hard to earn their respect, and to give up their fight for "leader".

Check out this website for more info on the breed.I'm looking to buy my first dog and need some assistance?
Talk to the rescue groups. They sometimes have puppies, but can point you in the right direction of "good" breeders.

Here is some Inu puppies for sale in Florida. Please, never buy from a pet store. That is about the worst thing you could do.I'm looking to buy my first dog and need some assistance?
NEVER NEVER buy from a pet store.. you will pay too much for a low quality animal, you will get lied to (in order for them to get a sale) and you will be supporting a very cruel industry of breeding pets for no other reason than profit!

a vet, or dog groomer might know of a breeder OR you can buy a dog magazine and they will have ads for breeders in the back.

I doubt pet shops would even have Shiba Inus. So yes, don't buy a dog from there. As to where you should buy one from, I'm not in that area, sorry. Good luck, though.I'm looking to buy my first dog and need some assistance?
They're lovely dogs, but I wouldn't recommend one as a first dog either. You really should have something a little easier to handle. It's very important for the happiness of dog and owner that you get a dog which works for your life, personality, and dog-handling skills. Believe me, a mismatch can make things very difficult. Please do a little research before you commit yourself to this. Stanley Coren has written a very good book on matching dog temperament to owner temperament, can't remember its name. Try searching "choosing a dog" on the net. Contact some Shiba breeders by e-mail and get their thoughts. Good breeders would rather not sell a puppy than sell one to a place where it won't work out well.
