I'm probably going to have 5 of my friends with me. So things to keep us occupied.
Best Hotels? Beaches...Shopping...Things to do in Miami at age 16?
New Parrot Jungle is probably worth checking it out. Miami Seaquarium, while it is not my favorite aquarium in the country, provides another alternative although I'm sure it won't impress you at all if you've been to any other ones. A better alternative probably would be across the causeway from Parrot Jungle - the Miami Children's Museum.
But if animals are your thing, then I recommend Metrozoo over Miami Seaquarium. You could try to see both.
There's a children theater company that meets sometimes in Coral Gables to perform. http://www.miamichildr.../
There's also an Indian Village he could check out west of Miami - the Miccosukee Indian Village.
For arcades, there's Gamework. But I think he's a bit too young for that.
For swimming (hopefully it won't be too "cold" for swimming for your son), the Venetian Pool in Coral Gables is also a good choice or any of the beaches in Miami (the most children friendly beach is supposed to be the one by Crandon Park in Key Biscayne due to its shallow waters. But considering his age, he probably would be happier seeing cartoons than caring for a nice pool.
For child's fun, Wannado City in Sawgrass Mils by Ft. Lauderdale would be another good choice - it is where kids can play as role models - police officer, chef, etc.
Other suggestions I would give are storytelling events at libraries and bookstores. Barnes %26amp; Nobles and Book %26amp; Book (check out the Coral Gables location - great environment) offers children events.
If you are worried about distance (especially since cars aren't recommended to have in Miami Beach), then the closest attractions by taxi (as in within 15 minutes from South Beach) would be the Parrot Jungle, Miami Children's Museum, the Miami Seaquarium %26amp; the Miami Science Museum.
The only three things I can think of that's good for kids in Miami Beach is a little water playground in Flamingo Park and the North Shore Park and the Scott Rakow Youth Center.
North Shore Park features "Saturday Express," a day of fun-filled activities such as athletics and arts and crafts. Bring the participant report card to register. Also at North Shore, A Nature Club is open for 3rd to 6th graders and includes field trips, lectures, eco-adventures and arts and crafts.North Shore also offers dance classes for teens and a Chess club.
Scott Rakow Youth Center, which is closer to South Beach, has a children's swim team, a bowling alley and a Family Day on Saturday and Sunday, which is free to residents and $20 for non-residents (excludes entry to ice skating rink). The Scott Rakow Youth Center offers a full service afterschool program, including music lessons, gymnastics, basketball, hockey, swimming, and figure skating. The center is located on Sheridan Avenue in South Beach.
