You do a great job by placing yourself in the monologue, connecting and relating to what is being said and who it's being said to.
Example:

Give the piece you have a chance. Film it. Get opinions of it. If you're happy with it and think it's something people could see, relate to you and cast you as, go with it.
All the best :)How Does One Deliver a Great Monologue Speech?
Obviously, this kid is pleading with his mother to run away from their troubles, and promising he'll provide for her. You start small and build to a climax, with lots of palms-up gestures.
Just make sure you don't flub your lines, and don't trip over the props. How Does One Deliver a Great Monologue Speech?
I'm not reading that lol.
Tips on Monologue delivery:
PERFECT memorization
Right amount of movement of the hands and feet
Confidence in speaking and movement
Projection and tightness of voice; no shaky vocals
Right amount of facial expression
Connection to the character
Understanding of the literature
Relativity between the imagined look of the character and yourself (i.e., If you're 15, don't deliver a monologue that's done by a 30 year old)
Variation in emotion
Variation in speech/tone
ONE focal point for delivery (unless you're talking to more than one person)
Comfortability with the piece (don't do something you're not ready for)
Complete CONFIDENCE
Break a leg.
